Everyone has their own method for keeping their chain lubed and squeak-free (except, it seems, for the guy who like to short-shift his bike so that the chain rattles and clanks on the swingarm). Here are a few of our favorite lube tips…
Too much lube makes a great dirt attraction. Keep your chains and sprockets clean, so that lube doesn't accumulate. Also, be sure to lube your chain after washing your bike.
Don't lube excessively. Lighter and more frequent lubing is preferable.
Spraying on the inside of the chain (as opposed to the outer edge of the chain as is show in the photo) is preferable. Centrifugal force will work in your favor as the lube works outward.
Sure, after a moto your lawn chair has an amazing magnetic attraction, but applying lube shortly after a moto (when the chain and sprockets are still warm) allows the lube to penetrate better.
No matter what, using your rear brake rotor as a backstop for your spraying activities is NEVER a good idea.
